Send
your resume the way employers want them. E-Mail your resume as a MS
Word formatted file attachment. Most employers prefer to receive resumes
in this format.
Do not send resume/attachments using PDF or compressed
zip formats. Documents/attachments using a PDF or compressed zip format
cannot be accurately scanned and easily indexed into a database. Today's
resumes are indexed for retrieval purposes and must be formatted for
easy inputting into a resume-tracking system.
Concerned about the appearance of your resume?
Employers are primarily interested in the content of a resume. Hiring
managers are focused on dates of employment, length of tenure, stabilitity,
performance metrics, account names, and technical skills. Most
employers agree that there are no points for artistic merit.
Be careful! E-mailing a resume is no excuse for misspelled words and
grammatical errors. Before you e-mail your resume, run it through
spell check and make sure you have used proper English. Also, when
deciding what to name your e-mail, avoid catchy titles - they could
be mistaken for advertisers and get deleted. Instead, choose a title
that is direct and clearly representative of the job you are responding
to.
